TXM Principal, Tim McLean was engaged by a Major Global High Technology Customer to assist in developing a plant layout for a Beijing based electronics joint venture. Our client had identified that poor plant layout was a key issue impacting on productivity and production capacity on the Beijing site.
THE TXM RESPONSE
TXM Principal, Tim McLean carried out a three day plant layout workshop at the Beijing plant with the support of our client’s China Supply Chain Manager. The plant layout workshop involved value stream mapping of the leader process for manufacture of smoke detectors, call points, heat detectors and modules and development of a new plant layout. From this workshop a detailed layout and action plan was developed.
The plant layout action plan identified actions that could lead to an output increase of 30% with existing plant footprint and equipment (barring some additional change parts for SMT machines). TXM also highlighted actions that would reduce inventory and lead times by more than 50%.
