Rosebank Engineering Consolidates its Operations in Melbourne with New Ultra Precision Machining Centre

THE CHALLENGE

Rosebank Engineering is an Australian-owned high technology small-to-medium enterprise that provides Defence with specialised services relating to fine mechanisms and precision hydraulics used in aircraft mechanical and structural components.
The company relocated from an older facility in Port Melbourne to a state of the art ultra precision centre in Bayswater, Victoria.
The Ultra Precision Centre is a leading edge metal engineering facility with the capability to support military platforms including the F-111, F/A-18 Hornet and AP-3C Orion aircraft, as well as helicopters and emerging capabilities such as the Global Hawk and other Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.

THE RESPONSE

Moving a 40 tonne Concrete Inertia Beam was One of the Many Complex Challenges of this Project

TXM helped Rosebank Engineering successfully relocate to this impressive facility by putting its project management expertise to good use.
The complex operation involved moving precision grinding and machining centres, high technology CMM equipment, clean room facilities and a nine metre long, 40 tonne isolation beam. The beam sits under the precision grinders isolating them from surrounding vibration. Removal of the beam required partial demolition of the Port Melbourne building, closure of a street in Port Melbourne and some very delicate lifting work.

THE RESULTS

TXM Project Manager, Mike Morgan, planned and executed the move safely and on time, ensuring the Rosebank Engineering leadership team could focus on providing a great service to their customers
The Australian Under Secretary for Defence Procurement, Greg Combet, opened the new Ultra Precision Centre in Bayswater, Victoria on 29 August 2008.
